Tron’s Light Cycle Now a Reality

As with most things that came from the 80s, the subject of the cult sci-fi special effects extravaganza known as Tron is pretty polarized; either you’re one of those people that salivate at the trippy, neon-laden backdrop and are on the edge of your seat when the light cycles battles start up, or your one of those people that “just doesn’t get it.” But regardless of how you feel about the film, you have to admit that the idea of owning a real life Light Cycle is 7 different kinds of insane, but it will probably never happen in your lifetime.

Well, the fine folks at Hammacher Schlemmer have officially made owning a real life Light Cycle a stone cold, thoroughly bitchin’ reality.

Keep in mind that this is no decorative piece to keep in your pool room or some manual pedal bicycle with some fancy paint slapped on it. This bad boy sports a ball rattling 996cc motor and a 6 speed constant mesh manual transmission, and just like the bikes in the movies, the design of the bike pretty much forces you to lay horizontal in order to operate its awesomeness. Oh, and did I mention that this thing is street legal. Yes, you read that correctly. Street. Asskicking. Legal.

But like your mother always told you at the onset of adolescence, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is, and while it is in fact a reality and available to the general public, there is a pretty steep drawback: the price tag. Weighing in at a whopping $55,000, it is not something that a lot of us are going to be able to feasibly own anytime in the near future, but you have to admit that there is no denying its awesomeness.
